The summer went by, as summers do, and there were worthwhile things to see and think about. I saw mainly shows at museums, and for most of August, when I wasn’t extremely busy with writing, I read a lot of books. Expect my reviews to appear in the coming months.
As we enter the new season, not only are there many gallery exhibitions opening, but we are simultaneously thrust into Armory Art Fair Week, with several major industry events taking place, including The Armory Show and Photofairs NY, both at The Jacob Javits Center, 429 11th Ave; Art On Paper at Pier 36; Spring Break / Art Show at 625 Madison Avenue; Clio Art Fair at 550 West 29th Street; and Independent 20th Century at 10 South Street.
There are a lot of great shows at galleries too. Shows that I am looking forward to seeing are new wall based sculptural assemblages by Jane South at Spencer Brownstone, paintings of museum guests viewing great works of art by Joe Fig at Cristin Tierney Gallery, new paintings by Georgia Elrod at Peninsula Art Space, 13 Monroe St, conceptual drawings from the estate of Will Insley at Westwood Gallery, city scape paintings by Austin Thomas at Morgan Lehman Gallery, 526 West 26th Street #410; and paintings by Daniel Heidkamp at Half Gallery now located in the East Village at 235 East 4th Street. I am developing longer lists of openings and events for paid subscribers. Monthly and group subscriptions are both affordable options.
A Special Announcement: On Friday, September 15, from 4:30-5 pm, I will be interviewed for a live podcast called “Writing and The Arts” as part of the very successful podcast series THE ARTIST BUSINESS PLAN, hosted by Superfine co-founders Alex Mitow and James Miille, available on Spotify, Apple podcasts, and Google podcasts. Tune in to hear me speak about my role as a writer in the arts.
